Cap Ferrat/ Cap d'Ail
Sunday 5th April we went to Cap Ferrat, because I have been reading Michael Powell's autobiography and his father had a hotel there, from about 1925, which they renamed the Voile d'Or (Golden Sail). When they had it, it was quite a modest place, but with stunning views, and his father never made much money from it. From a bit earlier, but I don't suppose it had changed much by the 1920s, how peaceful and unpretentious it looks:
It's still quite peaceful, but jam-packed, many of them the yachts of the rich:
We've now lived here for over two years and on our first visit we pick the hotel's "fermature annuelle", but it meant we could park in front:
After looking round Cap Ferrat, we drove on, as it was now about 5.30, I was pessimitic about finding any good bars still open, but M was optimistic, and right, we discovered La Pinède, with spare seats and a lovely view:
